Adding Computer Description from Registry to Alert Information RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am surprised that there isn't an approach already documented for what I believe may be a fairly standard requirement.

We have a whole bunch of different servers that infrastructure support, however we'd like to enrich the alert data to include the computer description.

I have created a custom attribute (let's call it $ComputerDescription) and created a computer registry query as below.

This is available within the Discovered Inventory.

I have performed some customisations of alerts in the past, however it's been a while. What I believe that I need to do is perform a command on the alert to resolve back to the issuing computer object and then pull the Description out of SCOM computer object under the Windows Computer_Extended class.

I have checked other similar blog postings, however some end up in dead links. "There is a feedback article open on the connect site http://connect.microsoft.com to expose custom fields as overrides so that you can use parameters in there. The ID is 426005  if you want to add any feedback."

Another dead link , http://blog.avanadeadvisor.com/blogs/roberthenry/archive/2008/05/22/11176.aspx  The following from Kevin Holman provides a summary of those "custom" alert fields. I am uncertain whether I need to enumerate the $ComputerDescription value and add it as a custom alert field, or whether I can simply do the transformation withian the command.

Any advice on whether what I am trying to achieve is possible and a steer on syntax would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Andrew
