USER NOT SHOWING IN GAL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I created a new user in exchange 2007 earlier this week.

The users in the organisation are saying the user is not showing in the GAL.

I have checked to make sure the user is not hidden from the GAL. I have also connected to a user and send / receive the OAB but the user is still not in the GAL.

Any suggestions would be great thank you.

  • Hi

Can you check using OWA to see if it is a GAL or OAB issue?  If the user appears in OWA's address list then you have a problem with OAB generation.

  • Hi,

the Offline Address Book is generated once a day. So this bahavior might be quite normal. If you want to generate the offline address book manually use this command

    Update-OfflineAddressBook -Identity <OfflineAddressBookIdParameter>

  • Yes, run that command and then check for OAB Generator errors in the application log of the server responsible for the OAB.  You may need to increase the logging level to see why a particular use is not being included.

This article explains the details: http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2010/management-administration/offline-address-book-part2.html

  • If your OAB isn't downloading then that could be part of the problem.  I would start by finding out if the OAB is generating correctly and look at any related errors in the application log of the Exchange server responsible for generation.

  • Hi,

the other thing to look for is the OAB URL transfered from Autodiscover Serrvice. Start outlook click CTRL and then with the right mouse on Outlook symbo in taskpane then choose "Test E-mail Autoconfiguration" What about the URL for the OAB? Is it valid?

  • sorry i have been out of the office

ok i will try this, how will i know if the URL is correct or not? I am not sure what i am looking for to be honest.

  • the OAB URL looks valid but it is slightly different to the URL in exchange as there are loads of random letters and numbers after the last (\) in the URL, these random letters and numbers are not in the URL on the exchange

    does this make sense?

  • Hi

Could you post the output of this command (you can edit out any identifiying info):

    Get-OabVirtualDirectory | fl server,*url*

and post the output with the random numbers in it.
