Search functionality ... Frustrated yet again ... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to search for files in a directory, including sub-directories, modified after a date (I am a software developer).  Try to accomplish the search in Vista …
In XP it was right click on the folder, select search, then the date criteria.

I hope some MS employee reads this and the complaints of many other developers and maybe mentions it to his/her buddies in the Vista team.
Not everyone using Vista is a novice/sales-person/secretary/kid that wants to find her/his music/document containing a phrase in the title …

Unfortunately every new computer now comes with Vista pre-installed and then I paid money to upgrade to Ultimate …

  • Hi,

From your description, you must have installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) on your system. Please understand that before installing SP1, we can right-click the Search option on folders and the Search entry appears on the Start menu. However, SP1 changes the Search feature on Windows Vista now.

  • Great Tim, I can right-click again.  I thought I lost my mind when I could not find the right-click search.

What is the Vista team thinking?

Now we need the up-arrow on Windows Explorer as in XP to move up one folder ...

    Thanks again for the link.
