Cannot get WSUS installed again on Server 2008 Standard RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having a huge issue, WSUS will not install on our Server 2008 Standard install, we had to knock out all of the roles associated with Windows Process Activation since some features we needed to install in ISS were not able to install, the solution I found for that was to blow away WPA and everything associated with it and go from there, however now that I am trying to install WSUS again it keeps giving me errors, no matter what I try. Here are my logs:

    WSUSCa_150904_1712.log:
    http://pastebin.com/bZ7cHXjx

    WSUSSetup.log:
    http://pastebin.com/Xi3m2gMJ

    WSUSSetupmsi_150904_1714.log:
    Part 1: http://pastebin.com/spyezVSr
    Part 2: http://pastebin.com/JfHsCQ2W
    Part 3: http://pastebin.com/AThHCy5H
    Part 4: http://pastebin.com/GKVEpwQw
    Part 5: http://pastebin.com/BSUbUR9T
    Part 6: http://pastebin.com/R1jg4EC6

(I used pastebin because the last file was so large, so I just opted to use pastbin all around, if this is an issue let me know and I will attempt to post the logs directly here apart from the last one which causes my browser to complete freeze)

I have no clue where to start, I've tried a bunch of solutions, from knocking out the install files all the way to deleting all of the roles and starting fresh (including internal database) and searching for and deleting the internal database and wsus directories found via search. Can anyone give me a hand with this? I've been working on it for 3-4 days now trying different variations of the process with no avail.

    Thank you,

    Michael

  • I actually removed everything when I was trying to get this reinstalled HOWEVER I did finally get WSUS up and running. I was trying to put the database on F:\ an external drive, HOWEVER, for some reason the installer for WSUS did not like that idea, on a more recent install I had it drop the database on to C:\ and the datastore to F:\ which installed successfully. I'm not sure why the database didn't like being on F:\ but it is all up and running now.

  • Hi Micheal,

    >>Cannot use file 'f:\WSUS\\UpdateServicesDbFiles\SUSDB_log.ldf' because it was originally formatted with sector size 512 and is now on a volume with sector size 4096. Move the file to a volume with a sector size that is the same as or smaller than the original sector size.

According to the log, there is something wrong with the log file of the SUSDB.

When you re-install the Windows Internal Database, have you removed the database file manually? If no, please remove it and try again.

If it doesn't work, please follow the steps below to totally re-install the WSUS and its' component:

    • Remove WSUS
    • Remove WID,IIS
    • Remove the SUSDB database files
    • Rename the inetpub and c:\windows\system32\inetsrv folders
    • Re-install the WSUS

    Best Regards.
