VHD sets on 2012R2 Guest?

    Question

  • Hi,

I have a 2016 Hyper-V cluster and have several 2012R2 Virtualized Clusters that now live on the 2016 Hyper-V cluster Wanted to implement the new VHD sets functionality on the existing Virtualized 2012R2 Clusters.

Is this possible? Or does the Guest OS limit the server to the original limitations of shared VHDX?

    Thanks!

    Chris

  • Hi Sir,

I assume that you are going to add "shared VHDX" for virtualized 2012R2 guest cluster .

You only need to create new VHDx on CSV of server 2016 cluster ,then attach it for 2012R2 cluster nodes with "shared vhdx" .

For details please refer to this article:

Hope it is helpful to you .

Shared VHDX was introduced in 2012 R2, VHD Set is a "new" 2016 feature - as far as I know.
