need to destroy raid 5 disks that hold the replica and bring it back as raid 10. RRS feed

  • Question

  • The C: drive holds the OS and program files including SQL. It will be unaffected.

    The D: drive holds just the replica information.
    (We have so much wasted space it will be better to create a "raid 10 + spare" out of the raid 5)

    The guides tend to assume that the new replica will be online at the same time as the old one. In my case we are using the disks in the raid 5 to create the raid 10 array.

    Can't I effectively
    create an  export of the whole of the "raid 5" replica data onto a "temporary disk".
    Do my "raid 5 -> raid10" magic
    Import the data from ""temporary disk" to new raid 10 disk.
