2007 - 2012 - distribution point during migration process RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anyone know why SCCM 2007 clients that have not been migrated yet to SCCM 2012 (5.x client) are finding their correct management point (that is SCCM 2007 MP server) are assigning distribution point for SCCM 2012 server? (I see that in logs).

I was under impression that SCCM 2007 client will not interact with 2012 site and it's components until client is switched over to 5.x version and new site is assigned?

  • Which log are you seeing this in and can you please post the relevant portion of that log file.

Note that clients are never assigned to a DP. DP location is dynamic and happens every time content is required.

  • I see it in locationservices.log on the workstation - but I think I have found the reason for this.

Old 2007 DP had incorrectly configured boundaries and every package and task sequence that was ever created in 07 site had an option checked to use fallback to unprotected DP (I guess that was previous admin's workaround to not having correct boundaries).

Client then uses my new SCCM 2012 DP instead of 2007 since 2012 had the boundaries configured properly. Does that make sense?

    Log looks like this:
