Can I do this in WSS or Foundation? RRS feed

  • Question

  • All,

I am working on designing a solution, and wanted to know if you had any insight.  The solution calls for a website where users will login using FBA.  There will be about 400,000 users in the system.  First of all, Can I use Foundation or WSS to do this, or do I need to go with MOSS or 2010 Server with the Internet Licenses?  I always get confused on exactly what I can do with Foundation, and how to apply licensing for such.

If I do use Foundation with FBA, I would assume there is no way to have an anonymous access pages mixed with pages that require login?  I hope I am making sense.. any guidance on this solution and how to use Foundation properly would be very helpful.  Thanks!

  • Hello,

Here below some answers for your question:

1- SharePoint Foundation can run a webfacing site.

2- You can configure Foundation with FBA.

3- You will need to purchase a license called External Connector for Windows Server in order to run the SP Foundation as a web site, for more information check out this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/external-connectors.aspx and it's not that expensive in comparison with SP Server Internet License.

4- you can configure the anonymous accessed pages mixed with non-anonymous pages.

5- You will loose all the publishing features in case you need it, the WCM features only exist on the SP Server with Internet License.

6- You will loose all the server features such as InfoPath Form services, excel services, etc...
