GPO Software Installation Question


  • I have our system set to install 3 applications to every computer that connects to the domain. Our portal software, our Virus protection and 90% of the computers need Adobe so I have that pushed out as well.  

    We also have about 15 Thin Clients set up as Kiosks.  I was thinking of connecting them to the domain but I did not want any software pushed out to them.  I was wondering if the "Configure software Installation policy processing" setting in "Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Group Policy" would work to accomplish this if I link the GPO directly to the OU that contains the Kiosk profiles.

  • What you can do below mention steps

    1.Create a Security group and add all the kioks and thin clients to this group

    2.Create a group policy and configure software distribution 

    3.Apply group policy to the ou where you have all the computers and software

    4.Using Group policy delegation deny applying particular group policy for that computer group which we have created in step 1

  • Thanks!  I did not consider security groups.  Although this is most likly what I will implement to solve the issue, for educational purposes, I would still like to know if there is a GPO setting that will tell the computer in the OU to ignore the software Installs from other GPO's?  And would "Configure software Installation policy processing" be the way to accomplish that?
