Error on restore a subsite

    Question

  • I have worked on this error for a week and cannot solve it. I need to restore a publishing sub-site. I only have the backup for the site collection using backup-spsite management shell. So I restore-spsite to a development server first. Everything looks fine except one or two urls. Then I used export-spweb and "save site as template" method to extract the sub-site to cmp and wsp files. After I import-spweb or create the sub-site use the wsp template in the production server. I got the error on all sites pages. The publickeytoken is kind of common. Can someone tell me what it refer to and how to address this issue. Many thanks.

  • Hi eg10013,

Using the following commands to export and import sub-site to make sure that all permissions are intact:

    Export-SPweb -identity "http://subsite -Path " ExportName.cmp" -includeUserSecurity -IncludeVersions All
    Import-SPWeb -Identity "http:// newSubSite" -Path "ExportName.cmp" -includeUserSecurity"

SharePoint doesn’t support saving publishing sites as a template by default. There might be some errors and not reliable to be used in production to create new sites off of.

  • Thank you Grace for your response. I have tried your method the include additional parameters for the export/import web site. I still have problem "List does not exit". I have compare the two sites and find out all list exist with the same number of items. It can be id/token changed?

For save publishing sub-site as template. I changed the "savesiteastemplateenable" to "true" in the site option via SharePoint designer. Then open https://[URL TO SUBSITE]/_layouts/savetmpl.aspx to save the template. I know this is not the right option. I just gave a try in case...
