Monitoring HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) event RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a couple of HP servers which I monitor with SCOM 2007 R2. I was wondering how I can monitor the events from HP Systems Insight Manager. I already imported the Proliant Management Pack but it seems that this one does not monitor anything from SIM.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi
If you want alerts as well as state change, all you need to do is set an override on the monitor for generate alert = true. Save it to an Overrides.HP management pack and you can start getting alerts as well.
Personally I'm glad it doesn't generate alerts out of the box as it means I can fix all the Insight Manager issues first and then turn on alerting for specific alerts I'm interested in.
    Cheers

  • Hi

The MP does monitor Insight Manager on windows servers - have you had a look under the HP views in the Monitoring part of the console? Does it list your HP Servers? Did you get any errors while running the import wizard?

Most (if not all) of the monitors are set to not generate an alert by default. They just change state (and usually the majority of your servers will go critical due to IM events in the Insight Manager Log).

    Cheers

  • Hi,

I use the latest version of HP Proliant Server MP (1.3.1) for SCOM 2007 R2. The HP Agent Service Monitors generate Alerts but the monitors (rules) of the Insight Manager only change the State lof the HP Server like Management Processor, Logs, Server Storage, Power Suplies ... (have a look at Health Collection State of the HP Server folder)

  • Hi Mark, what exactly do you want to get from SIM ? We are using the proliant pack and it uses the windows event logs generated by the HP agents installed on the windows boxes to do the monitoring.
