Will storage for a PG get reformatted when changing that PG? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Will storage for a PG get reformatted when changing that PG?

It took a long time to set up the PG because of time to format the storage pool space. If I now (or later) change the PG (add or remove Servers that are protected), will the storage allocated for the whole PG be reformatted, or just the additional for the added Server?

    Regards

    Phil

  • Hi,

No - DPM will create / delete relica volmes on an individual data source level.  With the exception of data sources that can be co-located (SQL, Hyper-V and Client protection) when you add data sources to a PG new volumes get created and formatted.  Likewise, when you remove a data source from protection and chose to delete the replica, it will be deleted for that data source only.
