Apply costs in PWA 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have created several different cost resources that allows us to track different "Other Direct Cost (ODC)" categories of payments (travel, specific supplier payments, etc.).

As a concept, we have been assigning the individual resource along with the "ODC Travel" cost resource in Project Pro.  We would like for the assigned travel costs to be applied when the resource returns from a trip and marks the task 100% complete.  Or, when a scheduled monthly payment has been made to a supplier and the task is marked 100% complete, the payment applied.

No problem in Project Pro... but now we need to do the same in PWA, which won't allow you to edit a task that has a cost resource is assigned.

Is there a work-around to this or another way to enter the tasks that will allow it to work in PWA?

  • Hi there--

Please see Brian's response. There are some limitations in PWA and what can only be done in Project Professional. It's as designed.

You will need to use the MS project to assign Cost Resources or Material Resources to tasks untill MS provides this as a new feature either in next pack or new version of Project Server.

    Hope that helps.

  • Agree with Amit.  one option though could be to use a custom field in PWA
    - then VBA in MS Project to transfer the data to where you want it.  you
could emulate the experience - but it won't update till Project is opened.

  • I'd be very interested in that option Andrew.  Is this process on your blog?
