User not able to sign into Lync

Question
-
We have one user who while able to loging to outlook is unable to login to Lync. He gets a popup asking for a username and password but it will not accept the password. He is able to access AD with that username and password. We have cleared the local profile and have had the user login for a separate machine to no avail.
We see an error
sign in didn't work
you didnt get signed in. It might be your sign-in address or login credentials.
From the logs we see SIP errors 401 Unauthorized.
We changed the sip, reenabled the Lync account etcetera. Any ideas what we can try next? It stopped working after the user changed his password a week or so ago.
I am sorry if this is the worng forum as i didnt find a general forum in the Lync section.

Hi bluebark
When you sign in are you using the format of email address or sip address to sign in?
The lync password should be the users AD password so you might want to try reset the password again on the backend.
If you open OWA does the lync presence show?
You can also use this lync thread if you need further help:
