  • Hi,

WindowsUpdate will take care of updating IE11 for you, just as it takes care of all other components of Windows.

Each month, there are updates released by MSFT via WindowsUpdate, and IE11 updates are included within those monthly updates.

If you examine your Settings, Update & Security, Update History, you can see if updates are occurring.

This example shows my pc has applied 2017-06, 2017-05 Cumulative, etc.

  • Well if Windows Update will take care of updating Internet Explorer 11 for me  Then why when I go to Internet Explorer home page and click on settings and then click on about Internet Explorer It shows the version I have Version11.332.15063.0  and then right under that it shows updated versions: 11.0.42: (KB4018271) Product ID : 00150-20000-00003-AA459  The (KB4018271) is highlighted in blue but when I click on it a box pops up and says Google Chrome is unresponsive do you want to restart it now or close ? I click yes to restart  it but nothing happens.

This is the same version (the latest available) update as for me. Your IE11 is up-to-date.

For the "Google Chrome is unresponsive" issue - this is *nothing* related to IE11, it's because you have (or previously had) Google Chrome installed as your default web browser. And when you click the blue hyperlink, your computer is trying to launch Google Chrome to show you the webpage of that hyperlink. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/4018271/cumulative-security-update-for-internet-explorer-may-9-2017)

Do you still have Google Chrome installed? Do you have problems using Google Chrome?

  • It states that I am using Version:11.332.15063 not the updated version which is Version: 11.0.42 (KB4018271) isn't there a stand alone update for Internet Explorer 11 ?  Saw on your update history page you have one update for the month of June. And on my update history page I have yet to receive  any new updates for the month of June.

11.332.15063, is the latest available update for IE11, for Windows 10 v1703

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4020102

Windows10 uses a Cumulative+Rollup servicing approach, each monthly update for Win10 includes patches for all components (including IE11).

Since your IE11 version shows as: 11.332.15063, this denotes that you are using Win10 v1703 (15063 denotes V1703 of Win10).

You are up to date :)

(my screencap above, isn't exactly what you would see in your own Update History, because I'm still running the older Win10 v1607, yours is newer than mine :)

  • Instead of using Google Chrome to update, try using Internet Explorer.
