Measure Group Proactive Caching Versus Partition Proactive Caching RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm in the process of implementing a relatime partition proactive solution for the company i work for.  During development i noticed that there is a setting on the Measure Group properties which enables the user to set Proactive Caching.  I want to know how is this property different than the Proactive Caching on the Partitions.  I have been trying to find material on the web but no one talks about this.  I'll appreciate your response.

  • My understanding (see BOL entry below) is that the Measure Group properties provide the default settings for the constituent partitions - but partitions can be individually configured, if you don't want them all to share the same settings:

SQL Server 2008 Books Online (November 2009)
You can design storage for a cube on the Partitions tab in Cube Designer. You can configure storage and design aggregations separately for each partition in a measure group. You can also set default storage settings for any measure group.
