File Sharing In Windows 2008 Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to make a shared folder on Windows 2008 Server, this folder will contain certain documents ,

I want that all the users should be able to view the files in this folder but they can not copy any thing from this folder.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

you can't prevent copying when the user has read access. So either remove access complete or you have to accept this.

  • You can Share a folder and set the permission for  everyone user as Read only checked other you can leave as it is.

Select the folder --> Properties --> Sharing tab --> Permission --> add everyone if not added --> check Read only permission, others leave it.--> Click ok.

If required Select the folder --> Properties --> Security tab -->add everyone if not added --> check Read only, Read & Execute permission, others leave it.--> Click ok.

And remove the Permission inheritance from that folder using below steps

Select the folder --> Properties --> Security tab --> Advanced --> Uncheck the Inherit from parent permission ....... options

Hope this will be ok for you..
