Is Windows 10 Better Protected Against Ransomware Than Windows 7? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently a Windows 7 PC in production serving audio streams via Shoutcast was successfully attacked with ransomware.  Immediately upon boot the computer displayed a screen with instructions on how to arrange for a money transfer in return for a key to unlock the files that had been encrypted.  As per policy, we did not arrange for a money transfer.  However we did disconnect the CAT-5 cable and reformat the HDD.    The question we have is whether Windows 10 is better protected from this sort of attack than Windows 7.  Any suggestions for 3rd party software that protects the operating system?
