delete a report to allow for a replacement of a resource RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have an engineer that is putting together a timeline in project pro 2013.  She currently has a local resource
and would like to replace it with one on the EPM.  When she goes into
the Resource pool for the EPM and selects both the resource to be
replaced and the one to replace it, then hits the replace button she
gets an error message that say "Resource NAME has actual reported.  They will remain on the team, but their remaining work will be reassigned to resourcesNAME"

    Steps taken:

    Open Project from the EPM
    Go to the Resource Tab
    Add Resources
    Build Team from Enterprise
Press the OK button on the Filter page (no filters are applied)
Under Enterprise Resource, select the resource name
Under Project Resources, select the resource to be replaced
Press the Replace button (error occurs at this point)

Both of the resources are set as work resources.

How can we clear this error?  It is very important.

    Thank you,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

This is actually not an error but the expected behavior.

If you have actual work on a resource (even a local resource) then you cannot remove this resource and replace this (local) resource by another one (enterprise resource). This is by design to keep history.

MS Project will split the assignment in 2 assignments: the actual work will be kept on the first resource (local) whereas the remaining work will be assign to the second resource (enterprise).

In case you still want to delete actual on the local resource, simply delete the assignment on the local resource and assign the enterprise resource without using the "replace" feature from the resource pool.

    Hope this helps.
