SharePoint Explorer View in separate window and ADFS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!  customer is planning to implement federation services in a near future.

The SharePoint Explorer View with Windows 7 and IE8 (IE9) is different from how it works in Windows XP and IE8 or IE7.

When a user from a Windows 7 client computer and IE-8 (IE-9) opens a SharePoint Document library, - a separate window will pop up for the “new Windows Explorer view”, and this is by default.

Windows XP client computer with IE7 opens the SharePoint Document library into  “regular Explorer View” inside the browser,

SharePoint uses WebDAV and 302 redirection I believe for the “New Explorer view” and for open it in a separate Window..

Does  ADFS v2  allow this, with other words will it not block the new behavior of Win 7 & IE-9?

    Thanks in advanced;)

  • Hi dameor2977,

Web Folders (such as by using Network Places) which rely on the DAV redirector, will no longer work as expected. Web folders are typically created in order to have a file explorer view of a site or document library to easily copy and move files. Using this feature when SharePoint is working with ADFS is not supported.
