    Question

  • Hi,

I've been struggling with console crash for a long period of time now.

It happens when i open the network, Server Storage and Security/Update Tabs.

Here's the log, I tried to open the three tabs one after the other so you have all the errors listed:

  • Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that SBS Console crashes when open the network, Server Storage and Security/Update Tabs.

Please try to open the Dashboard in safe mode, which automatically disables all non-Microsoft add-ins. If the problem does not happen, try to enable the add-ins one by one to narrow down the problem:
Start button – All Programs – Small Business Server – Dashboard safe mode

Besides, try to repair the SBS console if possible and check the result. Repair the Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard Console:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg680337(v=ws.11).aspx

Check to see if the fix it mentioned in KB 2616792 is helpful:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2616792/windows-sbs-console-may-crash

If the problem persists, please provide more information:
    1. Run “msinfo32”, provide the OS name and version.
    2. Check Event Viewer to see if any relate event has been logged.
    3. Whether WSUS is enabled and configured on your server?

    Best Regards,
    Eve Wang

  • Hi Eve,

First, thanks for helping me out!

I havent been able to start the dashboard in safe mode. Can't find where to start it.

I went to the KB mentionned and it the parameter was already set to true. But i noticed the safe mode option. So i tried enabling safe mode in that file, and disabled all the pages. I then tried enabling them one by one and the same three pages make the dashboard crash.

I did repaired the Console with no luck.

    Here's the info you asked:

    1. Microsoft Windows Smal Business Server 2011 Standard, 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

    2. Yes, i do have error in event viewer. See below

    3. What is WSUS?

Another thing, should i be concerned by putting those error report with all the information about my company on the forum?

Thanks again for helping me out

  • Hi,

    >I havent been able to start the dashboard in safe mode. Can't find where to start it.
Please reference article - section “To run the Windows SBS 2011 Standard Console in Safe Mode” for detail steps:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg680337(v=ws.11).aspx

    >What is WSUS?
Windows Server Update Services  3.0 (WSUS) is built-in component in SBS 2011 Standard.

You may reference document “Configure WSUS by Using the WSUS Server Configuration Wizard” for more information:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939915(v=ws.10).aspx

    >Yes, i do have error in event viewer.
Please open CMD, using “sfc /scannow” to check/repair system files.

And using BPA check to see if there is any error/warning - Windows SBS Best Practices Analyzer (BPA):
    https://support.microsoft.com/zh-cn/help/2673284/windows-sbs-best-practices-analyzer-bpa

Is there any alerts mentioned report? Such as error/warning about SharePoint/SQL/WSUS database?

    Best Regards,
    Eve Wang
