SCCM Question on task sequence RRS feed

  • Question

  • Here is what i did.

I advertised a  task sequence out to do something

Now every sccm client  machine has a folder _SMSTaskSequence on drives that had most space on them

I dont want this to happen in future .

So if i copy no_sm_on_drive.sms on all the drives on the servers where i dont want this folder to appear , will that matter

or no_sm_on_drive.sms is just for SCCM Server related and do not matter for SCCM clients

what should i do to avoid this in future , i believe it was created because of  the way the task sequence was advertised

  • This folder stays there something is not right with Task Sequence execution. Check the smsts logs.

Once it executes properly, logs should be moved to Window/CCM/LOGS folder.

The no sms on drive trick works only for distribution points (SCCM servers) since SCCM chooses the biggest drive available when you add distribution point role.

  • No. That's a server side (as in ConfigMgr server not Windows server) "thing". As mentioned, your TS is not finishing successfully otherwise the TS engine would be cleaning that folder up for you so you need to troubleshoot that.
