Vista Start Menu Size and changing the color brown to another color or image RRS feed

Below is the size of the Start Menu I would like to have. I re-edited a copy of it via a image program to scal the size. I have removed all the unwanted icons, menu entries, and switched to SMALL icons via the properties. I would like to stick with the new Vista format vs. the older XP style in wihch I know can be a lot smaller.

I run a 24" LCD at 1920x1200 and that is the only problem I have so far.......I guess it is more of a visual annoyance at this time.

My second question is, how does one go about and change the color of the menu....specifically the brown in the image below. I would like to have it a solid color or even better an image of some sort. I don't currently use any aftermarket files like WindowsBlinds, etc. If this can be done with those programs, then I will try one out.

This is the size I would want (I left out the user icon on top)
