Go to Master Pages and Page Layouts library from Site Settings and download any existing webpart page layout. To download page layout click on Item context menu, this gives you options Send To --> Download a copy click it and download on your machine. Edit this .aspx page in Visual Studio, copy any existing zone and make new zone for middle. Rename file to CustomWebpartPageLayout.aspx and upload again in Master Pages and Page Layouts library. Now create page from that page layout.

Follow same steps to download a page, here you will download page from page library, edit it and upload again in page library by overriting old page.

  • Without SharePoint Designer, I can't think of a way to add a new zone, once the page has been created.  You can, however, create a new Web Part Page and choose your layout that way.

Select View All Site Content and click Create.  In the "Web Pages" section, choose Web Part Page.  You can then select your layout.

Depending on what page you want to change, you could probably create a new one, name it the same thing as the one you want to update, and make sure the "Overwrite if file already exists?" option has been selected.  Just remember that you'll have to go back and re-add all the Web Parts you want to the new page.

    Hope this helps!
