User-based software deployment does not work for sub-domain users RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

we're working in the following environment:

    1. ConfigMgr Current Branch 2002, Site-Server, MP, DP, all-in-one, in domain.net
    2. User account and computer account in sub.domain.net

We're doing user-based software deployment, the required primary device flag is not set. AD and AAD user discovery is enabled so that the affeected user in the sub.domain.net is found in ConfigMgr console and member of the user collection the application is deployed to. The computer in the sub-domain is properly connected to the ConfigMgr server. Bondaries are set appropriately. When the user opens software center, he does not see the software that is available to him by using the user collections.

Software deployed to the device is properly shown, as well as software that is deplyoed to users of the domain.net root domain. Only sub-domain users are affected.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards, Thomas

  • Just to clarify here, sub-domain here means an actual AD child domain within the same AD forest, correct?

  • Yes, sure - sub-domain in the same forest, transitive trust ...

  • Have you reviewed the software center log file on the client(s): SCClient_<domain>@<username>_1.log?

  • Yes, nothing unusual - no errors :-(

  • I don't have any explicit ideas off-hand as to my knowledge, this should work.

If you force a user policy update while software center is open, is there any activity in that log at all? Is the log named for the proper domain and user?

    Does policyagent.log have anything additional?

You may want to open a support case here as well as I really don't know why this shouldn't work.

  • Hi,

Did you try to deploy some user client setting to sub-domain users? Such as the setting "Allow user to define their primary devices"?

  • Yes, I did this also - and that seems to be working. I Software Center - Options I selected "I regularily use this computer to do my work" and in ConfigMgr console the device has the proper user as a primary user assigned. But still no applications available for the user.

    Kind regards, Thomas
