no space on C drive with reinstall of windows RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I reinstalled a clean copy of XP pro on my desktop.  Its running fast and performing great, but I ran out of space to install programs.  THere is now 6 GB of space on this drive and 171 GB on the H drive.  How can I use the H drive for the control panel when I try to install and Add programs on the computer?  thanks

  • Not recommended, but possible:

Change the location of the Program Files folder:

    1. Open Registry Editor: regedt32.exe

    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

    3. Change the value of "ProgramFiles", or "ProgramFilesDir"

It is always recommended to perform a Registry backup before editing any of the values. Any improper editing can cause unwanted behavior and can potentially corrupt the operating system completely, requiring to re-install the operating system.
