2012 R2 Upstream with 2016 Downstream RRS feed

  • Question

  • Guys, is it supported to have a Windows 2012 R2 primary WSUS server with downstream 2016 Servers or visa versa? I assume going forward windows 1809+ will still sync from a 2012 R2 server and a 2016 server?

  • Hi Shocko,

It is a pleasure to answer your question.

WSUS upstream OS server version don't need to be the same with WSUS downstream. The combination of WSUS 4.0 (Windows Server 2012 R2) and WSUS 10.0 (Windows Server 2016) that you mentioned is achievable.

It is also recommended to install the latest monthly rollups to each WSUS server to fix related reliability issues.

Hope the above can help you.
