Auto Answer Paging / Lync / CX500 or CX600 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a customer that wants to deploy Lync IP phones in their class rooms (either CX500 or CX600 or equivalent)

Customer would like to use the phones speakerphone for emergency broadcasts

Is it possible to setup the phones for some kind of auto answer so that you can use the phone as a paging endpoint?

I know i can integrate third party SIP paging to Lync, but everything i see requires amps/speakers in the commom areas and are not utilizing the IP phones

  • Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to do that as the phone is setup with a certain firmware.

However, with the SNOM 300 phones being listed as compatible with OCS now, you could look at a solution like that.

The snom phones can register under multiple identities, so you could have it registered to OCS, and then have another registration to a SIP paging system, so it would act as an endpoint.

Go to http://www.snom.com/ and poke around, I don't know if any of their devices will actually register with a SIP paging system, but figured its worth a shot.

  • if you decide to test Snom, set the parameter Identity 1 -> SIP -> Auto Answer to ON. This will force the unit auto-answer immediately after being called. Ironically, we are a school and by connecting amplifier to the headset output of Snom300, we have fully functional floor paging system for under $100.
