How to merge two diffrent windows firewall rules? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok, so I have exported many WFW files from many different PCs, it must be merged so I can audit what has been added to local firewall on individual computers, when I perform "netsh advfirewall import ...", it seems everytime WFW file gets imported it over-writes the current rules!

How do I merge them so I can consolidate all the firewall rules? or is there a app/script that will merge all WFW files for me?

  • Probably export the rules in CSV and compare ?

I don't think we have an option to merge with exiting.

  • I am not aware about a merge function which is available.

To remove the "headache" of locally added rules, I usually adjust the firewall configuration to make sure that only firewall rules applied by GPOs are effective. This may help you to standardize your environment configuration.
