  • Direct from Excel will not use the Secure Store Application, only Excel Services / Excel Online will use the Secure Store app but those OData connections will not refresh in the web browser for Project Server on-prem, they will only refresh in the Excel client. For Project Server on-prem, I would use either the OLAP cube or direct SQL Queries on the Reporting schema as the data source for your reports as these will refresh in Excel and Excel Services / Excel Online once the reporting is configured as per the Docs link above.

  • Hello,

What version of Project Server are you using? If this is for all users, see the following:

    PS 2013: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/project/configure-reporting-for-project-web-app-project-server-2013

  • Read access to the database is based on one more more AD groups found in the secure store.  If it is not working for some users, then the users are not in the AD group.

Go to the Secure store and find out which groups have been assigned to the Secure Store ID and verify that those users in in the AD group.

  • It should be using AD groups but that isn't a requirement, whilst it is not recommendded - there is nothing stopping users being added directly - this woould just be an admin nightmare! Check how you have configured the reporting setup and ensure the users are added correctly. Compare a user that works fine and a user that doesnt.
