Microsoft office project web access date range problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

When visiting the microsoft project web access, under "Tasks" tab, date range arrows do not work and the only column shown in front of "Act. Work" is the current day (i.e., a single column).

I have tried to change the "View Options" but to no avail. Meanwhile, it used to work correctly and it is still OK in other workstations, yet mine seems corrupted.

I am using Project Web Access 2003 and Internet Explorer 9.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi there,

Have you installed Project 2010 by any chance? I have seen this before after installing Project 2010 on the client machine.

Are other users using IE 9.0, does this work for them? This isn't a supported browser for Project Web Access 2003. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-server-it/project-server-2003-components-HA001165378.aspx

    Thanks

  • Hi

Yes, exactly after installing MS Project 2010 on the machine this happened to me.

How can I fix this? I can not downgrade my IE browser, yet this browser used to do fine before installing 2010 version.

    Any solution would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

To get this working we had to remove the Project 2010 client and not install it on that client machine again, remove the Project Server 2003 activex controls - you should find them here C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. Launch IE and navigate to the PWA 2003 site. At this point it will prompt you to download and install the activex controls (if removed from from IE / uninstalled before - this is a requirement). Then all should work as expected with PWA 2003. You will need to log on to you client machine with admin rights when you carry out the above steps. A list of the ActiveX controls are below, taken from http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=20488

    • pj11xxxc.dll (where xxx is the abbreviation for your language)
Contains strings and bitmaps used by the grid and the text converter.
    • pjres11c.dll Loads strings and bitmaps from the resource dynamic-link
      libraries (DLLs).
    • pjtextconv11.dll Converts raw numeric data into strings, and
      vice-versa.
    • pjcalendar11.ocx Provides a drop-down calendar for picking
      dates.
    • pjgrid11.ocx Displays task details, the timesheet, and the Gantt
      Chart.
    • pjoutlook11.ocx Pulls task and calendar entries from Microsoft
Outlook and converts them into Active X Data Objects (ADO) record sets that the
grid can interpret. This control warns the user before it reads data from
Outlook. It cannot be used to access Outlook information without the user being
aware. Note that PjOutlook.ocx is marked as unsafe for scripting.
    • pjprint11.dll Provides print control.
    • pjquery11.ocx Acts as a general-purpose control for all miscellaneous
      client utility functions.
    • pjupdate11.ocx Updates tasks and calendar entries from Project Web
Access to the Project Server database.
    • pjoffline11.ocx Caches pages for offline use when users switch to
      offline mode.

    Thanks

  • Hi

I did as you said several times, still no results. It reinstalls activex and the website comes up with the same state as before.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

So Project 2010 is still not installed on that client machine and the ActiveX controls for PWA 2003 have been reinstalled? If this is the case you will have something else causing issues with the ActiveX controls on that client machine..

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Problem is the PJCALEND.DLL in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

if you rename this one, you are able to reinstall the 2003 WebAccess. But if you restart MSProject 2010, the installer will recreate this dll. So probably there is no solution for this. It's a little bit frustrating. I also have to connect over Citrix to another client just to run the WebAccess, or I deinstall MSProject 2010.

  • I did not have to uninstall Project 2010 to get this working. I manually downloaded and extracted the PWA 2003 ocx files from here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20488, and then ran "Regsvr32.exe pjcalendar11.ocx".

There was no need to uninstall/reinstall the other PWA 2003 ActiveX controls, or rename PJCALEND.DLL referred to in the previous post. I am using IE10 in compatibility mode. I have done only cursory testing of Project 2010 to check that it is not broken, but it does not revert the ocx calendar control - all seems well so far.
