Does ADDS 2016 schema support Lync 2013

    Question

  • Hello,

We are planning to introduce 2016 ADDS, so we are planning to upgrade schema ver from 69 to 87. We have Lync server 2013 in a child domain. Will there be any impact to Lync if we upgrade the schema ?

    Root domain - Contoso.com (FFL and DFL - 2008 R2)

    Child domain - ca.contoso.com (DFL - 2012 R2)

    Lync Server ver - 2013

    Thanks in advance

    Manas

  • Ideally it will not be a issue as the upgrade will not enforce.

  • Hi Manas,
As far as I know, nothing will be broken including Lync , however, it is recommended to do a backup server before doing such upgrade so that you can rollback in case of any failures.

Since you have already prepared the schema with lync 2013 attributes, you have no problem in that. You may need to extend schema if you want to implement future versions of Lync and Skype for bussiness though.
