Increase size of FAST thumbnail previews? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently installed FAST for SharePoint 2010 and wanted to know if there's a way to increase the size of the thumbnail preview that's shown for documents.

  • Seems that PowerPoint thumbs are 320x240 and Word thumbs 139x180. This would be the maximum sizes you can use as of today.

Since the size parameter on the Core Results web part is not working you could drop a content web part on the page, link it to a script file with some jQuery or javascript of choice, and then set the height/width of the thumbnail tags on the page to your desired size. You would have to add a delay or trigger as the thumbs are loaded async. I haven't had time to test this, but it should be possible and a little tricky.

  • There is a setting on the core results web part: Core Results -> Display Properties -> Document Preview Height In Pixels -> Use Specific

However, we have not seen this value take effect. Please try it and let us know how it works.

  • Thanks Brent,

I've tried changing this setting and it doesn't seem to make a difference so maybe it can't be done yet or I'm missing something.

  • I'm sure the custom code or script would work but it's not a huge deal to us so I'm not going to bother with that.  I'm just surprised ths functionality wasn't included out of the box but maybe it will happen with a future update.

  • Probably a bug since there is a pixel option in the web part. We can hope they fix it in an update, as it would be useful to increase the size in many cases.
