  • Question

  • Hi All,

We are using Project Server 2013. Mostly We receive the project schedules from vendors with their resource names. We are not maintaining the vendor resources in our project server resource pool. While uploading the project to project server it requesting to map the project resources to enterprise resource pool. Is it possible to upload the schedule without mapping the vendor resource. We want to keep the vendor resource in the schedule.

If the project has multiple task calendars, while uploading the schedule to project server is it possible to automatically create the local task calendars in the server as enterprise calendar.

    Thanks in advance, Taj

  • Hi Taj,

You can upload the schedule without mapping the resources and all you have to do is to use resource names that do not exist in PWA and they will be saved as local resources. In fact only identical names (local plan and enterprise resources) will be mapped.

With regards to the calendars, I think it is better if you just enabled in the additional server settings area the usage of local base calendars ("Allow projects to use local base calendars"). This way you can use the vendors calendar but do not have create a calendar per vendor. Also, using the organizer you can copy the calendars between multiple projects if you need to

    Hope this helps

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for your response. If we leave without mapping will it create any issue.

    Thanks in advance, Taj

  • In addition to Paul's excellent advice, you could map the vendor name with the contact column. Doing this, you wont pollute your project team with local resources. Unless you want to have the vendor resources as resources to be able to group their work.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Taj,

It will not create any issues, unless you would also want to mange same vendor resources across multiple projects. In this case it would make sense to have Enterprise resources so you can see assignments and load across all projects

    Hope this helps
