Outlook 2019 Downloads The Same Email A Number Of Times RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 10 Pro x64 Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.619)
    Outlook 2019
    Pop Email Server

Whenever I start Outlook and a mail run is kicked off many of the emails are downloaded multiple times.  That is the exact same email appears multiple times in whatever folder it is filtered into.  Some appear two times and some three times. This seems to be associated with my primary mail id.  Emails addressed to other email ids are not duplicated.

    How do I fix this?

Edit: The duplicates only occur on messages to my primary email address.  Other email addresses in profile do not get multiple copies.

  • Hi saberman,

To help narrow down the issue, please check if you have accidentally set any rules which may lead to this problem. You may temporarily disable all rules for this email account and see the result.

Besides, please check if "Leave a copy of messages on the server" is selected for the primary account via Account Settings > More Settings > Advanced? Try clearing the checkbox of it and see if the issue remains.

In case the above doesn't work, it is suggested to try creating a new Outlook profile for the problematic account and check if there will be any improvement.

Any update, feel free to post back.

    Regards,

    Yuki Sun

  • I can't find Advanced but I did find the leave on server settings.  It is set for 14 days.  That is so I can leave outlook running on my computer and still get the same emails on my phone.  This worked fine in Outlook 2010.

Will try clearing it and get back to you.

BTW, could not upload a picture.  Got the spinning circle that didn't end.

  • I left the keep on server cleared and am getting only one copy of each email.  Will set it back to 14 days and see if the problem occurs again.

  • Getting duplicate emails again.  I used File\properties to get the detail and copied two of them to text files and compared them They matched completely.

Do I have to go back to Outlook 2010 to properly process emails?  Please note that find related does not work.

  • Hi saberman,

Thanks for the update. Did you accidentally set any inbox rule in Outlook which may lead to this issue? Please go to Home > Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts and check if there is any suspicious rules. You may disable the rules temporarily by unchecking them in the Rules and Alerts dialogue box.

By the way, how's everything going when a new Outlook profile was created?

No. Please note that the problem goes away if I uncheck live on server.

    >By the way, how's everything going when a new Outlook profile was created?
How do I copy all of the accounts from my current profile to a new one?  I have a few dozen accounts in this profile.
