  • Redirection of xyz.com to www.xyz.com can be done at DNS level. Who ever has created your DNS ask them to redirect users to www.xyz.com and then send the request to web server.

At web server level, you need to add 2 host header into your IIS website, one with www.xyz.com and another with xyz.com

Also you have to define AAM for http and https in sharepoint. So you define http://www.xyz.com under default zone and then add another one by extending under custom zone which will be https://www.xyz.com

  • Make sure, you have xyz.com and www.xyz.com in the DNS. Create a web application with www.xyz.com and Extend the web application with url http://xyz.com. You could do it in similar way for https.

Extending a web application will refer to the same web application. In Share Point, extending the web application provides access to the web application with different authentication provider.

The other easier way is to create a website with the Url http://xyz.com and specify redirect url http://www.xyz.com in the properties.

Kindly help me step by step for website extending.

  • I'm a little confused.

Do you want http to redirect to https? This would be more common. We used a redirect, similar to http://os.com/blog/capture-and-redirect-http-to-https-with-sharepoint-2007.

From your post, it sounds like you want https://xyz.com  to redirect to https://www.xyz.com. You don't need sharepoint for this. I think it's a DNS/IIS issue. When a request comes in for https://xyz.com, the DNS directs it to https://wwww.xyz.com.
