Project 2007 to SP2010 Questions RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am season Sharepoint Architect but a newbie to Project Server. I need some help.

I am trying to upgrade Project 2007 to Project 2010 by following the http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662500.aspx technet instructions.  I did the db attach full method.  I can get to the PWA site.  However, I notice a few things

    • The user and groups didn't seem to get carried over
    • The TimeLine webpart shows an error.

So, my questions is. Are there anything that I could be missing?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

Sorry for falling in thread: Often your web part page starts behaving strangely or giving you errors due to some buggy script or web part. This sometimes even stops you to open page in edit mode because of Java Script errors.  there is a very simple way to delete those web parts. Just append ?contents=1 at the end of the URL of respective page and SharePoint will open the Web Part Maintenance Page for it.

For example, if the URL of problematic page is
http://ServerName/PWA/default.aspx Web Part Maintenance Page url will be
    http://Servername/PWA/default.aspx?contents=1
problematic You can insert the same web part again & see the behaviour

then remove the web part & insert it again.

  • Hi Ultragc88,

    Welcome to Project Server.

Presumably the DB attach occurred within the same or a trusted domain - otherwise the users won't exist?

I'm unsure which the Timeline webpart is, can you be specific regarding the webpart name and the error?

  • Hi Ben,

Thanks for the comment.  I figure out what was causing the problem.  I had the databse name misspelled. As a result, it created new databases.  That part is resolved.

As with the Timeline webpart, I am not sure what it is to be honest.  When I go to the page, it shows the message below.  I look at the orld farm, it seems this webpart is Project related.  It could be 3rd party but I can't sure.

"Web Part Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type could not be found or it is not registered as safe. "

  • Thanks guys for all the suggestions. After some digging into this, it looks like the webpart was a custom webpart someone had implemented some time ago.  It doesn't seem to work anymore.
