In Windows Explorer there is the facility to display the page count in the details view of a folder. If I close an updated document and save the changes the document page count in Windows Explorer will show 1 page. As a work around I have found that manually
saving the document (Ctrl+s) before closing it does update the page count to the correct value. It would be more convenient if Word would do the job itself.
