Driver for Microsoft USB Ethernet Adapter Model 1821 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does someone know where to find the proper driver for this adapter that will work with WinPE?  Currently I can PXE boot with this adapter but I cannot get through WinPE with it, the device does not recognize the adapter and no IP is pulled.  I can get through this stage with a generic adapter or the Model 1633 adapter but I cannot PXE with the generic adapter and 1633 model adapters are apparently no longer made.

I've tried several options from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=microsoft+usb+ethernet+driver both the 8.22.124.2017 option and the 10.4.124.2017 option for Windows 10 but neither seem to work and we already have 10.2.701.2016 loaded into WinPE.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • I ended up loading these versions of the driver via DISM to the boot_x64.wim file from the Microsoft Update catalog

    10.2.701.2016\msux64w10.INF

    10.4.124.2017\msux64w10.INF

    8.19.602.2015\msu30x64w8.inf

For whatever reason it did not work to load these via our imaging solution's console, I had to manually do it via DISM.  PXE and continuing with the 1821 version of the adapter works now.

  • I have tried essentially every driver from this location https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=surface+ethernet+drivers

I still cannot operate inside WinPE with the Microsoft Adapter model 1821.

I'm going to try manually inserting the drivers using DISM instead of doing it via our imaging software (Ivanti) and see if that helps.
