Tasks to transition to operational maintenance team RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you practice the operational hand-over of a project and if you capture

it in the project plan?  If you do, how do you write it into the plan?

  • Kind of a broad question.  In the case of pipeline construction, we record
inspections culminating in a major milestone.  At that point, additional
activities are not kept in the schedule as they are the domain of operations
    - with the exception of cleanup activities.

In the IT domain, ITIL would indicate that you might include an Early Lifecycle
Support phase in your project schedule, but then close out the project once
the full hand over to operations has happened.

Is that helpful?  What domain are you working in?

  • Hi Andrew,

Yes, it is helpful to know that and I think you make a lot of sense.  I guess I could write something like a 30 day period before closing or another idea I have would be to do cross training while the work is being done.  Do you think those are feasible options?

  • Andrew,

I work in the IT domain.  I wonder if there is a specific book on best practices to writing project plans for the IT sector?
