Powerpoint 2013: Save as Web Page feature missing? RRS feed

    Hi everybody, my problem is very simply described: I needed to save some Powerpoint presentations as web pages for something I'm working on.
    I found out the 2010 edition had removed the feature, so I installed the 2013 Professional Plus Edition.
    During installation I asked to remove previous versions.

    I've been reading everywhere that the feature is back in Powerpoint 2013, but still it's nowhere to be found in the Save As list. How is that possible? I know it can be done with VB, but I'd like to find out why on Earth this is happening.

    OS is W7 Professional 64bit, italian version.

    PowerPoint Help suggests that you use SkyDrive to share the presentation (instead of saving to HTML which isn't supported).

    A better option might be saving to PDF, which is supported via File | Save As.

    Thanks, but I really need to save as Html.

    I read the page you're referring to, but then I found some other links in contradiction with it, especially this one:

    Note that the particular article you linked to applies to PowerPoint 2003.

    However, I agree that there is a contradiction. The article at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint-help/save-your-presentation-HA102748949.aspx?CTT=1 (which clearly applies to PowerPoint 2013) mentions saving as HTML as an example of "other" file formats. However, there doesn't appear to be a conversion filter for HTML any longer...

    Yeah, sorry about the other article, I misread.

    I had also seen the one you're pointing to, which, as you say, is misleading.

    I think they probably copy pasted the examples from an old article or something like that.

    Anyway, I've tried to save through Visual Basic and that doesn't work either. It says saving to html isn't supported.

    I'll probably export all pages as jpg files and work with that, thanks for the help.

    One more thing: this feature is very useful to web developers and I think it should be put back in.

    Post a suggestion for Microsoft at http://mymfe.microsoft.com/Office/feedback.aspx?formID=375 and/or at https://feedback.office.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scrx=1 (even though these forms refer only to Office 2010).

    I know this is old, but I have found a workaround this in Office 365/2013 suite:

    Open the content in the power point.

    Copy the content (control A)

    Open word

    paste in the new word document (control V)

    now export to HTML and the webpages are exported in the old fashion.

    You can try to open the PPT file directly from word, but in my case the content was throwing errors with invalid content.  I don't have time to figure it out... 

    I concur with others on this thread, PPT is a very quick way for customers to communicate what they like to see, I was quite surprised when the web page export feature has been hidden,renamed, or removed.  Obviously the code is still there as Word operates as always.  I hope that me pointing this out doesn't cause the feature to be removed from Word too!

    This is a real loss of functionality.  Converting a PPT to a web page was great for online learning, as the user could then play the PPT directly in the LMS (Blackboard, in our case), without having to click on the PPT link to open it.  I'm very sorry to see that this feature has been discontinued.

         

    What you can do is save the presentation as a PDF, open the PDF in Word and save as HTML. Most likely the resulting HTML file will require some additional editing, but at least you have something to start with.

    If you want to get back the ability to save as HTML from within PowerPoint, you can post that as a suggestion at the UserVoice site: http://word.uservoice.com.

    In Word or PowerPoint, press the F12 key to go directly to the classic Save As dialog box and then choose PDF for file type.

    My guess is that saving as HTML didn't produce very good results, and that is why that function was dropped.

    However, you can still save as PDF, which is better.

    I'm essentially using powerpoint to do simple vector animation to teach vector diagrams and any format which loses the animation is not 'better'.

    This is hideous! MS needs to stop assuming what users really want to do! They removed important functionality in VISIO and now this! All the options (PDF, OneDrive etc) are not options for me. I must have the HTML files.

    Saving PPT to HTML was AWESOME!  You could create professional CBTs (Computer Based Training) and distribute them within hours.  Microsoft seems to have the ulterior motive of wanting to push people to using their cloud drive.  At least this gives me a reason to keep up my hobby of looking for Microsoft alternatives.

    You can open a PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro and use the 'Export As ...' option to save a copy in HTML format.

    As in earlier versions of PowerPoint, you'll get an HTML file and a folder of images.  

    As Acrobat is becoming increasingly bloated, you may wish to find an earlier, less-bloated version than "DC".

    I have a recollection that Acrobat Pro was included "free" with Adobe Creative Suite 3 -- not the original release, but in an update (possibly 3.01). 

    It can also be found with Creative Suite 2.
