Hardware Change Vista Ultimate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Current Configuration:

    AMD Opteron 165 at stock
Asrock 939A8X-M ULI 1689 AGP chipset
    Nvidia 6600 AGP graphics card
    Auzentech X-Mystique soundcard
    WD 500gb SATA-II hard drive (x 2)
    Samsung SH-182 ATAPI DVD-RW drive
    Corsair TwinX 1gb 4400C25
    Netgear Wifi Card
    Hauppauge Nova-T 500 tv card
Antec Fusion Case (430w Antec psu)
    Windows Vista Ultimate (Technet)

I want to swap the motherboard for an Asrock 939NF6G-VSTA, which has an Nvidia 6150 chipset and put an Nvidia 8500GT in the PCI-E slot to improve graphics performance. At the same time I'll swap the IDE DVD-RW drive for a SATA one to tidy things up. Obviously I will need to reactivate once the change has been made. I intend to uninstall all the existing motherboard drivers before I shut down.

    My question is:

Are there any problems I am likely to encounter if I follow this course of action? I appreciate that a clean install is preferable, but that would mean a lot of reinstalling other stuff that is 'just right at the moment.

Searching for guidance on this brings up 'setup repair' and 'inplace upgrade' as possible solutions if it doesn't boot cleanly.
