Clients pushed to Secondary Site don't update records RRS feed

  • Question

  • First of all, I am new to SCCM and SQL.

I have 1 Primary site and 3 Secondary sites.   So far I have setup one boundary group for a single secondary site as testing. I see that the systems from that site show in the console and they all have clients installed but 28 of the 68 show Active and only half of those have sent a heartbeat DDR.  I have a single system that sent a hardware inventory yesterday morning.   I am not positive where to look as far as logs are concerned.  I think the clients aren't receiving policy like they should.

I am not able to paste any log info in this post but please let me know what is helpful and I'll try to add it to replies.

    Thanks!

    Add. info:

from the rcmctrl.log - ERROR: Exception message: [TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. ~~~~~OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server "PrimaryServer" retured message "Login timeout expired".~~OLE DB provider "SQLNCI11" for linked server "PrimaryServer" returned message "A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.     ~~OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server "PrimaryServer" returned message "invalid connection string attribute."

  • Well I logged into both the primary and one of the secondary sites and saw that SMS Agent Host wasn't running.  I started up the service on both servers and now the mpcontrol.log shows that the status is OK.  I'm now waiting to see if any clients show up as having reported to the server.

  • Hi,

You need to make sure the primary site database can be accessed from the secondary Site's MP.

Also, the MP of secondary site (actually it is site itself) need to be a member of smsdbrole_MP.

  • Let’s start with the basics: are there any errors on the monitoring node of the console / site status? Can you connect to the sql express instance on the secondary using sql management studio?

  • Hello and thank you for the reply!

Site status and component status all show green.  I can connect to the database on the secondary site without issue using the studio.  Database replication shows green between all sites also.

  • Hi,

Try to restart the SQL service on the Primary and Secondary site and see whether the replication works.

  • SQL services have been restarted.  Where would I see that replication is working?  Database Replication under Monitoring? That is still showing green with no issues.

  • Hi,

Check the log rcmctrl.log? See whether it still says the connection error.

  • No connections errors listed in rcmctrl.log any more. I made some changes in SQL Management Studio and restarted the services and those have cleared up.

I am still getting errors in the mpcontrol.log "Call to HttpSendRequestSync failed for port 80 with status code 500, text: Internal Server Error".  I saw that my Primary site was reporting in this log as status 200 "OK" but after a reboot it is now giving this error (also on the secondary sites).

In the past day I have had one system do a Heartbeat DDR, HWinv and SWinv.  My issue still remains that half the clients show up as inactive even though I can wake up all the systems up and try to force them to run the Machine Policy update task.  Would the errors in the MPcontrol.log be the cause of the systems not getting policy?

  • I had some clients talk to the server again yesterday. One systems has updated the HWinv and Heartbeat DDR.

I am looking into the CcmNotificationAgent.log and see that it the handshake with the server is correct but it fails as the following shows:

The database CM_TGL is the name of the database on my primary server.  Shouldn't it be trying to get the client certificate from the database that is on the secondary? If so, is this a setting that can be changed?

    Thanks again.

  • Hi,

You need to make sure the primary site database can be accessed from the secondary Site's MP.

Also, the MP of secondary site (actually it is site itself) need to be a member of smsdbrole_MP.
