What is new in SCSM 2012 RC? Should we wait? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am learning how to setup SCSM 2010 ight now. We have it in and I have done most of the customizing, but we are not yet using it in production. Now the RC was released for 2012. During implementation, I kept hearing the answer (maybe in 2012) from our consultant. Now I am wondering since we have not gone live yet if we should install the RC first or wait until the RTM comes out?

Is there a comprehensive list somewhere of the improvements/changes available with the RC?

  • What about running SCSM 2010 first. Installing the SCSM 2012 RC for testing and upgrade SCSM 2010 to SCSM 2012 RTM if available. So you have some time to test the customizations and compatibility of the management packs in the SCSM 2012RC. Also you can work and test the new functions of SCSM 2012 in the RC already. This way you won't run an unsupported SCSM environment and you don't need that much time for upgrading after SCSM 2012 RTM is available.

  • Hey

Here are some good articles about the new and updated features in SM12:

You can expect SM12 to be RTM in H1 2012. So it's just some more weeks to go, yeah!

    regards

  • Thanks! For those of you who may have done the RC thing before... We are not a TAP customer and I see that upgrade support is only covered for them. Should that be a concern? Do you think the upgrade from the RC to the RTM will be tough?

  • It's not only a question of "tough" or "easy". The update from SCSM 2012 RC to SCSM 2012 RTM isn't supported for non-TAP customers. Which means even if the update is working easy and without any problem you are running an "unsupported environment".

One option is maybe: Install SCSM 2012 RC and do some customizing and testing. If SCSM 2012 RTM is available install new servers in your productive environment. Export the MPs from the SCSM 2102 RC and import in SCSM 2012 RTM.

Is there already a date you have to go live with SCSM?
