Document Change Tracker in Word RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi we are using the Document Change Tracker in Microsoft Word and was wondering if there is a tool that allows you to enhance the current tracker, ie see changes in color by person, dates that changes were made and how the accepting changes works.

    Thank You, Loree

  • By default, Word does use different colors for different reviewers. If you are using Word 2013, you have to select All Markup in the Display for Review drop down on the Review tab (Simple Markup is selected by default).

  • You should be able to see all of that already whether you're using Work 2010 or 2013, though 2013 makes it easier to see.

With 2010 you should find that by default changes are coloured when track changes is turned on, with the colour automatically set to a different one per user making changes. If you mouse over the changed text it will show who it was and when it was done. You can increase the amount of information shown by enabling the Reviewing Pane (choosing the horizontal option shows the date and time the change was made, while that doesn't show on the vertical view).

With 2013 the same applies, but it looks better. In addition, when adding comments you can now have replies to specific comments and this maintain a discussion on a topic, and then mark the comment as done when complete so you know the required action has been completed while maintaining the information for later reference, for instance why something was included / removed.
