Outlook 2016 is prompting for username and password

    Question

  • I have exchange 2016 , IMAP is enabled ( Imap / Imap BE service is running ) , as well as the user mailbox has IMAP enabled. when I tried to configure the outlook with IMAP it is prompting for username and password . SMTP working fine as well as POP.

    Any suggestion

  • I just run get-imapsettings |f1 and figure out this port is coming in the output.

    Incorrect IMAP settings is what i think. what settings are you using?

    I believe its giving consistent password prompts, once or twice is OK

  • Hi Semi,

    Did the prompt often occur ? If just once, in my opinion, it should be a normal phenomenon.

    If it often happens, you can try to clean the saved username and password in the Credential Manager and check if any helps.

  • I cleared the CM setting .

    it is often happen when trying to setup a new IMAP email.

    My settings is SSL IMAP 993 , and SSL SMTP which is 465.

    I installed Thunderbird ( as it has more customized settings ) and it works fine, which now need to figure out why it is not working with Outlook.

    Appreciate any help.

  • My friend has an Apple PC, it works perfectly without any prompting for the first time.

    I belive the issue with Outlook IMAP !!!!

  • I figured out what is going on, the client should communicate to IMAP on port 1993 ?!!!!

  • Did you change your configuration?  IMAP SSL is usually port 993.

  • Someone must have changed it then because that is nonstandard.
