"The operation failed. The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error" in Outlook

Question

I'm having this error on some client's Outlook 2016 on laptop/PC.
This only seems to happen when they leave an email/draft open for a few hours. Closing and reopening Outlook works, but they lose their work.
Already tried recreating Outlook profile, installing all pending Office/Windows updates, repairing Office, but the issue remains.
Any ideas?

Hi Marios,
Might those users happen to have a Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook account and a Microsoft Exchange Server account configured in the same Outlook profile?
If either that or possibly conflicting multiple Exchange-like accounts exist in the same profile, you can indeed try testing it by creating separate Outlook profiles for each account.

Hi Marios,
Since you have recreating Outlook profile and reparing Office, it is suggested to refer to the suggestions of Burak to create separate Outlook profiles for each account and see if there is any difference.
Besides, you can also try reinstalling your Office.

Hi Burak, Aidan,
Thank you very much for replying.
No Google Apps for this client.
I'm going to try removing any additional accounts from Outlook (and ask the user to access them via OWA if needed) to see if the issue persists. If that fails, then maybe a full Office reinstall might help.
Thanks again for your suggestions.

Marios
