Pop-ups from http://www.lnksr.com won't go away. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I keep getting pop-ups from http://www.lnksr.com. I bought SpyHunter4 and its associated registry cleaner because I was advised that those two things would clean up my computer and get rid of this pesky pop-up. But, after purchasing those two programs and using them, even after they cleaned up quite a bit of risks and whatnot, I'm still getting these pop-ups a little too regularly. I also read somewhere that these pop-ups could be a parasite or virus and will potentially cause my computer to crash if I don't get rid of it. Please help. Thanks in advance. Dave

  • Hi Dave,

I suggest running IE with no add-ons. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons).

Based on my research,Lnksr.com Popup is a browser hijacker which will change the homepage and browser settings, and redirect your web search results to random sites containing lots of illegal advertisements, even Trojan, rootkit or other malware virus. Sometimes the antivirus software cannot identify the computer threat accurately and timely or remove it permanently. Therefore, manual removal is the best choice to uninstall it completely from your computer.

You may follow the manual guide here to have this virus removed instantly.

    1. Show hidden files

    a. Click on the Start button and then on Control Panel
    b. Click on the Appearance and Personalization link
    c. Click on the Folder Options link
    d. Click on the View tab in the Folder Options window
    e. Choose the Show hidden files, folders, and drives under the Hidden files and folders category
    f. Click OK at the bottom of the Folder Options window.

    2. Delete virus files

    a. Delete the related registry entries through Registry Edit

Guides to open registry editor: Click “Start” menu, hit “Run”, then type “regedit”, click “OK”
While the Registry Editor is open, search and delete the following registry entries listed below:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings “CertificateRevocation” =Random

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\run\Random.exe

    b. Find out and remove the associated files of this redirect.

    %AllUsersProfile%\random.exe

    %Temp%\random.exe

    %AllUsersProfile%\Application Data\random

    %AllUsersProfile%\Application Data\.dll HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Random “.exe”

In summary, Lnksr.com is reported to be a browser hijacker that can cause annoying redirection and harasses computer users worldwide. Lnksr.com can slow down the computer performance which means it will take a longer time for a program in the computer to respond. Besides, you are prevented from reaching the desired web pages when you are surfing the Internet because Lnksr.com will always redirect you to its own domain to increase its visiting traffics or some other websites containing a large number of unreliable advertisements and even high risky viruses. Thus, to protect your computer and important information in the computer, you shall remove Lnksr.com timely.

If the issue did not occur before, please try to use the system restore, return to the point which did not appear the problem.
