Manipulating text in html notifications templates? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We use html in our respons templates to end users (on creation, updated (by the senEmail) and by closure.

In each template (Notifications\Tempalte) we put in the orginal title, and orginal description, as well as analyst comments.

We include the descriptionfield beacuse endusers tends to forget what they requested after a while, so then we refresh their memory in this way.

However, as enduser normaly have their contactinfo and logo as mail signature and often write a lot in ther initial request, the content of the descriptionfield  contains many characters.

We want to implement a solution that we only e.g. shows the 25 first characters of the descriptionfield and then "..."

We've tried to use the Left() function but it didnt work.

I know html-coding in scsm isn't a standard feature, but do anyone knows how to implement this?

    Thanks in advance.

    regards, Peter

  • The description is a property of the work item.  SCSM cant pull only part of a property.  If this is absolutely necessary you may be able to use orchestrator to pull the description, invoke a script that removes everything except the first 25 characters, add an ellipsis or "...", and then the runbook will copy the outcome to the notification.

That all sounds like a pain in the butt.  I would add a link to the portal in the notification and tell them to "please find your work item there for more details".
