Backing up HyperV Guest RRS feed

  • While backing up HyperV guest, how does the application consistency inside the guest is ensured?

  • There is no right or wrong answer to this question . It entirely depends on what applications you are using .

    For Instance if you have SQL Server on VM . Sometimes just backing of VM is not enough . Traditional SQL backup of SQL to file share is required . Similarly you might have to take a file server back etc or any application aware backup solution is required.

    If you have clustered guest and use CSV storage then you are pretty much safe . Only downtime required is as long as VM powers backup .

    You can also look into capabilities of  System Center Data protection manager, Comm Vault, VEAAM etc  if it suits your requirement.
